Mission Statement

STATEMENT OF MISSION AND PURPOSE

The Haven's mission is to provide effective affordable treatment based upon the clients' motivation rather than their ability to pay for treatment.

The Haven is an inpatient drug and alcohol treatment program established in 1969 as an alternative to costly hospital based programs. Treatment at The Haven requires a minimum stay of 60 days and an average successful completion of 82 days. The program is Twelve Step oriented and the focus of treatment is on residents acquiring personal responsibility to maintain staying clean and sober. The residents are responsible for the upkeep of the house and have assigned chores. The program provides educational classes; group and individual therapy, to facilitate clients' developing needed life skills. The residents are referred to state agencies for education and vocational training.

History

The Haven is a therapeutic residence that provides residential treatment for substance abuse to motivated men and women over eighteen years of age. Since its conception in 1969, The Haven is a leader in drug and alcohol treatment throughout the mountain west area. The Haven has held fast to consistent standards of treatment that continue to work at a rate of success that steadily holds far above industry averages. The Haven has a long history of collaboration with the substance abuse treatment community in the greater Salt Lake area. We are an active participant in the Salt Lake County Coordinating Counsel and Substance Abuse Providers Committee. We fill the niche for long-term residential treatment in the continuum of services provided through our collaboration with other United Way and Salt Lake County service providers.

Staff

The Haven staff consists of counselors, social workers, and outside volunteers from community support groups, all of whom are experienced in treatment of alcoholism and drug dependency. Additional services are provided by the University of Utah Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Clinic (UUADAC). Most full time staff members are in recovery from alcoholism or drug dependency themselves, offering an accurate empathy toward the difficulties faced be the residents whom they serve. This, combined with professional training, strengthens the staff's ability to share experiences in a way that has proven successful in overcoming patient resistance. Our staff treats clients with the utmost compassion, honesty and respect. Along with our time-tested standards of therapeutic intervention, The Haven has adapted to incorporate the most advanced methods of treatment available within the field of addictions therapy throughout its history. The Haven staff screens all applicants, but final acceptance into treatment comes from the residents themselves, as part of the peer group consensus and consultation process.
