     Homeless on the street of
Ogden, and bathing in the
Ogden River Heather
worked the streets of Salt
Lake to support her habit and
survive.  Speed being her
“main thing” Heather would
also use alcohol, pills
(Oxy’s), marijuana, and had
a short bout with cocaine
which brought her down
hard and fast. Over the last
four years she had been in
jail with the longest period
being out was a 5 month
period of time.  Heather
states “I heard of the Haven
many times but never wanted
to stop I always wanted to

     Mike Nish has been the
Chairman of The Haven for
the last two years. He runs
successfully another
company, but he’s proud to
donate even two hundred
hours per month to The

saved my life”, he claims.
Ten years ago Mike was an

She was partying at a friends
house when the police came
looking for someone else.
Every one was arrested, and
taken to jail.  As far as
Heather knows she is the

addiction.
APP recommended prison

defender suggested going to

said she needed a chance.
Heather’s choice was go to
prison and do time, or do
something different.  She

, he did not want to go
because like he says, “People
look at The Haven as the end
of the road.” Nevertheless,
he realized he was mistaken
at that time; in fact, The
Haven enabled him to start a
new life. It was hard to come
back from the hell, but it was
worthy. After going through
every step of the
rehabilitation, Mike decided
to try to do anything he
could to help who saved his
life.  And The Haven needs
help all the time from
people, businesses, and other
organizations. Nowadays,
Mike’s main functions are to
raise money and oversee
constantly the budget.  He
says that the most important
challenge is to keep the cost
of living for residents as low
as possible. He confesses
that it is not always easy to
deal with money issues, but
